Owasippe Heads Into Its 94th Year

Owasippe Scout Reservation is preparing for the opening of another great summer in the Chicago Area Council. It has been 94 years since Owasippe first opened its sites to Scouts from the Chicago area. Owasippe consists of approximately 4,800 acres of woodland ideally suited for a summer camp environment. The original property for Owasippe, America’s first Scout camp, was donated to the Chicago Boy Scouts by the city of Whitehall, Michigan.

The Sign

I would give a case of cold Coca-Colas for a TV set and cable. I miss watching TV. CNN, yeah, sure. It’s part of my job. But I also miss the Cartoon Network and TV Land and Nickelodeon. The Green Hornet, The Rat Patrol, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Gunsmoke, Batman.

I grew up watching Batman on TV several times. The first time, in the 60s and later when I got back from living in Germany, in the 70s. Then cable came around and Batman was on it, too—sometimes twice a day.

Scouting In New York's Chinatown

Chinatown, New York – The Museum of Chinese in the Americas’ (MoCA) opens its latest photographic exhibition, "Be Prepared": Scouting in New York Chinatown, which contains some of the earliest available images of the neighborhood’s Boy, Girl and Cub Scouts. In conjunction with the exhibit, MoCA is calling for contributions that will assist in documenting the origins of the troops in the area.
